Henrique was given a chance to perform in the match against Reading in October 2006 because two other goalkeepers were injured. The Portuguese’s first starter was in the match against Barcelona in October 2006 (the Champions League). During that season the footballer played 18 games, showing great skill, but it didn’t help him to stay in the line-up. In 2007/08 season he made few appearances (mainly after injuries of regular goalkeepers) but showed a good game.
In 2014, after eight years with Chelsea, Hilario was released from the club at the age of 38.
