Holger Badstuber was born in Memmingen, Germany. He primarily plays as a center back for Bayern Munich and the German national football team, but is also capable of playing as a left back or midfielder. Holger is the World Cup 2010 bronze medalist.
He grew up in the youth system of TSV Rot a.d. Rot, played for VfB Stuttgart and Bayern Munich youth teams. When 18, Holger joined Bayern’s second team and spent there the 2007/08 season playing in the Regional League South. During the season Badstuber played a total of 23 matches for the club and scored 4 goals.
Holger made his professional debut on 27 July 2007 in the opening round of the 3rd Liga. Bayern Munich II won FC Union Berlin 2-1 at home. During the 2007/08 season the German netted 3 goals in 32 appearances for the club, thereby being invited to Bayern first team. On 1 February 2009 he signed a professional contract with Bayern Munich till 2011.
Badstuber made his first league debut on 8 August 2009 in a game against Hoffenheim. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Holger scored his first Bundesliga goal against Borussia Mönchengladbach on 4 December 2009. It was the winning goal for his team.
At the beginning of 2010 Holger extended the contract with Bayern until 2014.
