Hossam Ghaly was born on 15 December 1981 in Kafr el-Sheikh, Egypt. He currently plays as a midfielder for the Egyptian top-flight side Al-Ahly.
A product of Al-Ahly youth system, Hossam signed his first professional contract with the feeder club in 2001 where he shortly cemented his place in the starting lineup. After two years of his strong performances at Al-Ahly, Ghaly became the target for many European clubs such as VfB Stuttgart or FC Nantes. But he eventually transferred to the Dutch side Feyenoord Rotterdam in 2003 where he made a total of 49 appearances during a three-year spell. In 2006, Ghaly moved to England and joined Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. However, his success changed to a downturn after he drew off his shirt and threw it to the ground after being substituted during the match against Blackburn in May 2007. That event became a catalyst for his move to Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr in 2009. In 2010, Ghaly returned to his parent club Al-Ahly and plays there till today.
Hossam Ghaly is an international for Egypt since 2002. He helped his national team to win the Pan-Arab Games in 2007 and was an instrumental player in the African Cup of Nations victory in 2010.
