Ian Harte is an Irish back. He was born on 31 August 1977 in Drogheda, Ireland.
In 1996 Ian’s senior career took off in Leeds United. He got into the fold at once and spent the best years of his football life with ‘The Whites’. The head coach watched the player’s progress during the first season and tried to send him on the pitch with the main team several times. The experiment was a success and Harte managed to live up to the manager’s expectations, proving to be a solid player and capable of going all-out. Ian performed on the left flank, which implied there were a few players of the same role, and the back easily clinched a place in the main team. Harte made 213 appearances and amassed 28 goals for Leeds United during eight years.
In 2004 the footballer moved to Italy by penning a contract with Levante. The head coach trusted him and provided a place in the full squad, but not in every match of the club. Ian took part in 66 matches and netted ten goals for the new team during three years. In 2007 Harte went back to England to finalize a deal with Sunderland. He spent a season there and featured in eight games before transferring to Blackpool, where the footballer made only four appearances.
The continuing fall of his imperious form stopped by the middle of the 2008/2009 season, when the back tied up a deal with Carlisle United in January 2009. That was the club where Ian got a new lease of life, manned himself and showed the stellar performance everyone expected from him. Harte featured in 52 matches and fired 19 goals for the club during a year and a half before signing for Reading in 2010. He went on to net 15 times in 88 games during three seasons and was released in June 2013. Bournemouth was his next club.
From 1996, Harte was capped 63 times and netted 12 goals for the Republic of Ireland national team.
