Ilir Azemi was born on 21 February 1992 in Pristina, Kosovo. When Ilir was a child his family moved to Germany to avoid the conflict in the region.
At the start of his youth career Azemi played for Motor Gispersleben until he was scouted by SpVgg Greuther Fürth. The young player became part of the club in 2007, joining the U-17 team a year later.
Ilir was then promoted to the U-19 squad, where he fired 10 goals in 23 games under Jurgen Brandl’s guidance. Thanks to bright performance, Azemi was included in Greuther Fürth II that competed in the Regionalliga Süd. In the 2011/12 season the footballer showed an outstanding play finding the net 15 times in 35 games and becoming the 5th top scorer of the league.
After Greuther Fürth’s promotion to the 1st division, the striker was invited to the senior squad, signing a contract with the club until 2015.
