Ioan Mera is a Romanian center back, born on 5 January 1987 in Reghin, Romania.
In 1999 Ioan joined the youth team of the local FCM Avântul. Three years later Mera moved to Politehnica Timişoara, which was a real breakthrough in his career.
In 2004 he emarked on his professional football career, as he advanced to the first team of his alma mater Poli Timişoara. Despite the lengthy stay at the club (from 2004 to 2012) Ioan totaled mere 35 appearances and 3 goals, as he spent most of the time playing on loan for weaker Romanian clubs, like CFR Timişoara, FCM Reşiţa, CS Buftea, Gloria Buzău and Unirea Urziceni. For 7 years of being a loan player Ioan featured in 69 matches and managed 6 goals.
In August 2012, Ioan Mera completed the transfer to Russian side Alania Vladikavkaz. One year later he returned to Romania and joined Săgeata Năvodari.
