A Spanish footballer Ion Vélez Martínez performs as a forward for Girona FC. Ion was born on 17 February 1985 in Trafalla, Navarre.
In 2003, Vélez penned a pro contract with Peña Sport and his senior career began. His debut season was lined with three goals racked up in 18 matches. In 2004, the forward was scouted by Baskonia, where the following season would pass. The player displayed a good performance scoring seven goals in 26 games for the club. In 2005, a contract was signed with Bilbao Athletic. Ion amassed four balls in 20 matches during the 2005/2006 season. In 2006, the forward was loaned out by Barakaldo. Vélez produced a solid performance during the stint. He appeared 32 times and scored 12 goals for the temporary side.
After such a successful spell, the footballer signed for Athletic Bilbao and started to make occasional appearances for the main squad. In 2008, Ion was sent on loan to Hércules, where he spent a year. The forward netted five goals in 20 games for the temporary team. After returning to Athletic Bilbao, the player continued performing for the main squad. He stayed at the club until 2011, making 44 appearances and racking up three balls. In 2011, he had a short deal with Numancia and then moved to Girona. The 2011/2012 season was lined with five appearances made.
