Jacob Mellis is a midfielder, born on 8 January 1991 in Nottingham, England.
In 2002, Jacob joined the academy of Sheffield United and spent five years with ‘The Blades’ before completing a move to the youth system of Chelsea. It took the footballer two years to get ready for a professional start and give the final touch to all preparations.
In 2009, Mellis put pen to paper of a senior contract with ‘The Blues’, but failed to make any league appearances for the club during his spell. The same year, he went on loan to Southampton and took part in 12 fixtures for ‘The Saints’ during six months.
In 2011, the midfielder sealed a temporary deal with Barnsley and found the net two times in 15 games for the team during half a year.
In March 2012, Chelsea rescinded Jacob’s contract due to an incident with a smoke grenade, which was set off by the footballer right at Cobham training ground.
In the summer 2012, Barnsley secured Mellis’s services on a two-year deal and saw him fire 8 goals in 57 matches. In 2014 he moved to Blackpool.
From 2006 till 2010, the midfielder was capped 21 times and contributed five goals for the England national U-16, U-17 and U-19 squads.
