James Tomkins is a back of West Ham United. He was born on 29 March 1989 in Basildon, England.
In 1997 James decided to tie his future with football and went to the academy of West Ham United on a trial. The young talent was admitted to the youth system of the club after a series of successfully passed tests and an encouraging demonstration game. Tomkins cruised through all youth squads of the academy and came on the pitch in the starting line-up for almost every match. During 11 years, Tomkins managed to develop into a full-grown back, who could also operate as a defensive midfielder.
In 2008 West Ham United offered a senior contract to the footballer, who accepted the offer at once. James was given a chance to start his performance for ‘The Hammers’ a bit later, because he went on loan to Derby County the same year. Tomkins made seven appearances for the temporary team during seven months.
After the end of his loan spell, the footballer returned to his parent West Ham United and spent the 2009/2010 season with the starting squad, occasionally staying on the substitutes’ bench due to tiredness. James featured in 104 games and fired six goals for ‘The Hammers’ during three years.
From 2004 till 2011, Tomkins was capped 37 times for the England national U-16, U-17, U-18, U-19, U-20 and U-21 teams.
