Jan Polák is a Czech footballer who plays as a midfielder for VfL Wolfsburg.
In his youth Jan played for FC Tatran Bohunice and FC Boby Brno. He made his debut in the championship on 20 March 1998 at the age of 17. After 5 goals in 124 games for FC Brno, a young footballer was transferred to FC Slovan Liberec for a fee of Kč 20 million and signed a four-year contract with the club. In the course of three years he had 65 regional and 17 international appearances for the team.
Before 2005/06 season, Polák was snapped up by FC Nuremberg for a fee of €1.5 million. He made his Bundesliga debut in away game against Hamburger SV on 6 August 2005 and scored his maiden goal on 2 May 2006.
On August 2007 Jan Polák joined RSC Anderlecht in Brussels for a transfer fee of €3.5 million. With a Belgian club Polák was a runner-up in the Belgian Pro League two years in a row, until he finally battled his way to glory by taking the Belgian champion title. Soon after that he moved to German VfL Wolfsburg.
Jan Polák featured for every level of the Czech Republic youth national team and had a total of 107 appearances in various UEFA youth competitions. In 1999, aged 18, he earned his first international cap for the Czech Republic national team but disappeared from it for almost 5 years after the debut. Only on 9 February 2005, Polák came out on the pitch scoring a goal in the match against Slovenia. Moreover, he participated in FIFA World Cup 2006 and in UEFA Euro 2008 afterwards. In total Jan Polák had 57 appearances and scored 7 goals for the national team.
