Jan Schlaudraff was born on 18 July 1983 in Waldbröl to a family of a herdsman and a school teacher.
Groomed in the youth ranks of JSG Wissen and BFV Hassia Bingen, Jan marked the beginning of his professional career with scoring 10 goals in 16 games for BFV Hassia Bingen in the 2001/02 season.
At the age of 19, he joined Borussia Mönchengladbach making his debut in a 2-0 win over VfL Wolfsburg. However, Schlaudraff missed the 2003/04 campaign because of injury and was back to full fitness only a year after. Nevertheless, despite playing to his full capacity, a young footballer had 10 goalless appearances in the 2004/05 season which became a catalyst for another move. Thus, in January 2005, he left for the second-tier club Alemannia Aachen.
Jan Schlaudraff was the great goalscoring hope for Alemannia, and eventually with his netting 11 goals in the 2005/06 season, he secured his team a promotion to the 1.Bundesliga. With his striking 8 goals in the 2006/07 campaign Schlaudraff finished as the club’s top marksman, though it didn’t prevent Alemannia Aachen from relegation. Later on he played two brilliant matches against FC Bayern Munich catching the interest of the German giants.
Baulking at SV Werder Bremen’s call up, he moved to the Bavarians in 2007 for a transfer fee of €1.2 million. Overall, a skilful striker had 8 appearances in the first team and 5 games for the reserves. In 2008, he found himself at Hannover 96 where he made a total of 14 goals in 84 appearances for the club.
At the national level, Jan Schlaudraff featured in 9 games for the Germany youth side and had three caps to the national team in the 2006/07 season.
