Jan Šimůnek is a professional Czech footballer currently playing as a defender for 1. FC Kaiserslautern. He was born on February 20, 1987 in Prague, Czechoslovakia.
Jan Šimůnek began to play football in Switzerland, where his father lived and played until he retired. Having returned to the Czech Republic, Jan Šimůnek started to train at Bohemians Praha and in 1999 moved to Sparta Prague.
In 2005 the youth defender joined the senior squad of Sparta Prague, but stayed there for only a year. In 2006 the footballer signed up with Kladno SK and broke into the first team of the side. He participated in almost every game of the club. In 2007 he returned to Sparta Prague for a short period of time and signed for Wolfsburg VfL later that year. Over the period of 3 years the defender played in 52 fixtures of Wolfsburg VfL and in 11 matches of Wolfsburg II VfL.
In 2010 Jan Šimůnek was transferred to 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
Jan Šimůnek also played for the Czech Republic National U16, U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21 Football Teams. In 2009 he was capped for the Czech Republic National football team.
