Francisco Javier Chica Torres (also as known as simply Javi) is a flank defender playing for Real Betis in La Liga.
He began his football career at RCD Espanyol’s academy. Javi Chica made his first appearance on 15 October 2006 in the match against Villarreal. Recording 27 appearances in his debut season he helped his side to reach the UEFA Cup final that was however lost to Sevilla FC (Javi wasn’t in the squad in that match).
The defender never managed to maintain his position of an undisputed starter at the club, nevertheless, being quite frequently used on either of the flanks. Thus he managed to make 20 and more appearances in each of his seasons for the Catalan side.
By the end of May 2011 he was released from Espanyol without extending his contract. Javi signed for recently promoted Real Betis. His first match was on 27 August and ended a victory over Granada.
