Javier ‘Javi’ López is a Spanish midfielder playing for RCD Espanyol.
He was brought up as a professional footballer at Real Betis but soon was transferred to Espanyol’s football academy. After that Javi signed for the Catalan side in 2007. At first he was assigned for the B team where he played 44 games.
On October 4th 2009 he debuted in La Liga against Villarreal nevertheless most of his playing time was spent for the reserve team not managing to save the side from relegation to the Spanish third division however the efforts.
López was finally appointed for a position in the main squad in the season 2010/11 owing to his coach Mauricio Pochettino. Anyway the manager was still uncertain about Javi’s position on the pitch. Since 2009 the player was used in 55 games either as a defender or a midfielder.
