Javier (Javi) Márquez Moreno is a Spanish football player currently performing for FC Elche in defensive midfield.
Javi was brought up in the city of Barcelona where he entered Espanyol’s football academy. As he grew up in 2005 he signed for the reserves of the Catalan side and finally in 2009 he made it to the main squad. On September 19 the footballer marked his first top flight appearance taking the pitch halfway through the second half of the game against Deportivo de la Coruña replacing an Israeli Ben Sahar. Javi promptly won the main squad position and very soon scored his first goal for Espanyol at an away clash with Almería. However the season ended prematurely for the young midfielder as in March 2010 he suffered a serious injury breaking his leg whilst facing Sevilla in a La Liga fixture.
Márquez managed to fully recover before the start of the 2010/11 campaign having become a solid starter for his club. Nevertheless the manager Mauricio Pochettino demanded too much from the midfielder who eventually refused to extend his contract with Espanyol.
Having moved to RCD Mallorca he was a part of an exchange deal as Sergio Tejera was transferred to Espanyol. Javi made his debut for the new side against his old side in the summer of 2012 in a 2-1 home win.
After Mallorca suffered relegation from the Spanish top flight the player joined recently promoted Elche.
