Jay Rodriguez is a striker of Southampton. He was born on 29 July 1989 in Burnley, England.
Jay emerged through the youth system of Burnley, where he spent seven years. That span gave him an opportunity to develop into a full-grown striker, who was also capable of operating on the flanks.
In 2007, at the age of 18, Rodriguez was offered a professional contract. He accepted the offer and joined the main team of the club, but went on a six-month loan to Stirling Albion half a year later. The head coach of the temporary team let him on the field 11 times and the striker netted three goals. After the end of his loan spell, Jay was welcomed back into his parent Burnley and given more playing time. Rodriguez showed stellar performance, scored a lot of goals and featured in many games as a starting team player. In 2010, the footballer completed a loan move to Barnsley, where he did not stay for long and soon went back to his native club so that to continue his confident performance.
During five years from 2007 till 2012, excluding Jay’s loan spells, he made 105 appearances and amassed 31 goals for Burnley. In January 2012, the striker tied up a deal with Southampton.
In 2011 Rodriguez was capped one time for the England national U-21 team.
