Jean-Alain Boumsong is a French footballer of Cameroonian descent born on 14 December 1979 in Douala, Cameroon.
Jean-Alain embarked on his professional career with the French club Le Havre. However, he announced himself to the French football playing for Auxerre in between 2000 and 2004. Boumsong sparked furor scoring the 89th-minute winning goal in the final match of the 2002/03 French Cup which ended for Auxerre in a 2-1 win over heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain and earned them the tournament trophy. Overall, the highly promising defender made 131 solid appearances and scored 3 goals for his four-year stint at the club.
In between 2004 and 2006, Boumsong featured for the Scottish side Rangers and then for the English club Newcastle United. In the 2006/07 season, he enjoyed a meteoric rise signing for the Italian giants Juventus, though recently relegated, and helping them much to return to Serie A after the 2006 Italian football scandal consequences.
In 2007, the defender signed for Olympique Lyonnais amassing in total 59 matches for three seasons with the club. In the summer 2010, Boumsong joined the Greek side Panathinaikos and played for the Greek club during three seasons. In the symmer 2013 Boumsong was released.
From 2003 to 2009 Jean-Alain Boumsong was capped fo the France national team 27 times. He established himself as a prominent figure during the 2006 World Cup qualification.
