An Ecuadorian footballer Jefferson Antonio Montero Vite was born on 1 September 1989 in Babahoyo.
Emelec was the club, where Montero started his professional career. His debut year was lined with one goal scored in 22 matches. In 2008, the winger was scouted by Independiente José Terán. Hardly had the terms of the contract been agreed, when he was loaned out by Dorados. His debut for the temporary team took place on 11 October 2008.
When Jefferson was 20, he was noticed by Villarreal. The winger signed a contract for a term of the next five years and joined the club’s reserves. The 2009/2010 season was lined with 32 appearances made for the B side. On 29 August 2010, Montero debuted for the main eleven of Villarreal in a match with Real Sociedad. Nevertheless, the footballer didn’t succeed in establishing himself as a regular player of the starting team. That’s why several loans followed. In 2011, Jefferson spent a short period of time at Levante and moved to Betis. During the 2011/2012 season, he followed up with one goal netted in 32 matches. In 2012, Montero was bought out by Morelia. Two years later he switched for Swansea City.
On international level, Jefferson started performing for Ecuador full side during the 2007 Pan American Games. His debut international goal was scored in 2007 in a game with Jamaica. But the full debut for the national squad happened in 2010, when the winger was selected for the FIFA World Cup qualifier.
