In 2003, ten Rouwelaar went on loan to Twente and featured in 11 matches for the temporary team during one season. The following year, the footballer sealed a season-long loan deal with Zwolle, where he managed to become a first-choice goalkeeper and made 36 appearances. In 2005, Jelle was loaned out to FC Eindhoven, where he took part in all matches of the season due to head coach’s trust.
In 2006, the keeper finalized a move on permanent basis to Austria Wien, but featured only in four matches during one year. In 2007, ten Rouwelaar had finally found his place, when he joined NAC Breda, as he made 168 appearances for the club as of November 2012.
From 2011, Jelle has been called up to the Netherlands national squad.
