Jérémy Mathieu was brought up at Sochaux. He made his debut in 2002 and won his first trophy (the French League Cup) in 2004 – all with Sochaux. Jérémy was transferred to Toulouse in 2005 where he made a huge progress bringing his team to the third place in the Ligue 1 thus earning a chance to qualify for the Champions League. Though the next season turned to be far less prosperous and Toulouse themselves were on the verge of relegation many clubs such as Bordeaux, Roma and Genoa showed their interest in the young defender. However Jérémy picked Valencia because they played in the Europa League and the Primera.
One of the most notable moments of his career was his first goal. It was crucial in Valencia’s 2-1 triumph against Athletic Bilbao. Having spent five years with Valencia, Mathieu moved to Barcelona in the summer 2014.
In 2011 the back earned his first call-up to France national team.
