Jermaine Anthony Jenas is an English centre midfielder who plays for London side Queens Park Rangers. He was capped several times for the England national team. Jenas was born in Nottingham.
In 1999 Jermaine joined the Nottingham Forest youth academy, which is located in the same town where the future footballer was born. In 2001/2002 season the player made his first appearance for the full team, but his debut was a forced measure taken by head coach Paul Hart and the coaching staff, because Forest was experiencing a serious financial crisis and the only available players were academy trainees. In the first season Jenas made 33 appearances and scored four goals, showing good results for an 18-year-old footballer. Jenas was soon called the best young player in Great Britain. Many top clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal started to chase him, but Jermaine eventually chose Newcastle and transferred to it for £5 million in January 2002.
The midfielder had a wonderful debut season: he took part in 41 games, netted seven goals and made several assists. That resulted in his being awarded the PFA Young Player of the Year. However, after that season the footballer suffered a decline in performance, aggravated by injuries. A new head coach soon came to Newcastle and the English midfielder started to get less playing time, which was the reason for his decision to leave.
In 2005 Tottenham manager Martin Jol paid attention to Jermaine Jenas and the footballer moved to White Hart Lane at the end of August the same year. The club paid £10 million for the player. In 2005/2006 he made 32 appearances for his new team and scored seven goals. The following season Jermaine managed to contribute eight goals in 34 matches, but his further scoring achievements were interrupted by a serious injury. In 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 seasons Jenas played at usual high level, but after Harry Redknapp took over the club, the midfielder started to lose prospects in London. In 2011/2012 he became useless for Spurs and the London side club sent the player on loan to Birmingham side Aston Villa, where Jenas made only three appearances. In May 2012 Jermaine returned to Tottenham. In January 2013 Jermaine penned a new deal with struggling QPR.
Jenas was capped 20 times for the Three Lions and netted one goal. First he had good prospects in the Three Lions, but after he had joined Tottenham, his international career began to come to a halt. Besides, from 2005 Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard were the key players of the squad in midfield and young players stayed out of sight.
