Ji Dong-Won is a striker of Sunderland. He was born on 28 May 1991 in Jeju, South Korea.
Ji’s professional career took off in 2010, when the footballer ended his youth career after several years in the academy of Chunnam Dragons. He penned a contract and officially became a player of the club in the summer 2010. During the striker’s début season, the head coach let Dong-Won on the pitch in the starting line-up, where the footballer adapted really soon. Ji’s performance was secure and encouraging, and he always kept his imperious form, which helped him to retain his regular place in the squad throughout the entire season. The footballer made 33 appearances and found the net ten times for Chunnam Dragons during one year.
In 2011 Dong-Won drew the attention of Sunderland, which decided to secure the striker’s services. Ji had already had the experience of playing in England, but at the junior level. In 2007 the footballer was sent to Reading, where he had a one-year professional development course. After the end of the programme, the player returned to the South Korean club. In the summer 2011, Dong-Won sealed a long-term deal with ‘The Black Cats’ and was given an opportunity to show his skills in 19 games during his début season. The footballer repaid for such a chance by scoring two goals. In 2013 the Korean international went on loan to Bundesliga side Augsburg.
The player’s international début came in 2009, when he was called-up to the South Korea national U-20 team. Ji featured in nine matches and contributed two goals for it during one year. In 2010, the footballer began to perform for the U-23 squad and chipped in two goals in nine games for it. From the same year, he was capped 16 times and went on to net eight times for the full national squad.
