Joseph Michael Allen was born on 14 March 1990 in Carmarthen, Wales. He went in for football in early childhood. In 1999, at the age of nine, Joseph joined the Swansea City academy and performed for the youth teams of the club during eight years.
In August 2007, Joe penned his first senior contract with ‘The Swans’ till 2010 and soon made his début for the main team. The footballer was mainly used as a reserve player during his first season in the club and got few opportunities to take part in regular matches as he could not compete with his older and more experienced teammates.
In 2008 Allen went on a season long loan to Wrexham and kicked his first goal almost immediately, but an injury sentenced Joe to a month without any appearances. After taking part in two games and scoring one goal, the footballer returned to Swansea City. In April 2009, Allen netted his first goal for ‘The Swans’ and the club extended his contract till 2012.
After some time, Joe became a regular and took part almost in every match. Due to his low height, the footballer had proper mobility, unique game vision and stunning ball possession skills, which earned him the status of a rising star. Allen made 130 appearances for the club and extended his contract for another four years in 2011.
However, on 10 August 2012, Joe finalized a move to Liverpool on a long-term deal.
Allen was capped for the Wales national U-17, U-19 and U-21 teams, where he made 28 appearances and found the net three times.
In 2009 the footballer made his début for the full national squad, where he took part in nine matches and continues to perform up till now. In 2012, he was included in Stuart Pearce's Team GB for the Summer Olympics.
