A Costa Rican footballer Joel Nathaniel Campbell Samuels is a striker signed for Arsenal. He is also a member of the national squad of Costa Rica. Deportivo Saprissa is the club, where he started to try his hand at professional level. He served loans to Puntarenas since 2011.
In 2011, Campbell was invited to take part in the 2011 Copa America and CONCACAF Gold Cup as a striker of the national team of his motherland. During the competitions, he acquired a reputation as a very promising player. So there was no wonder that the scouts of Arsenal got interested in him. It was known that the Costa Rican footballer took the proposal on 28 July, but a five-year contract was penned only on 6 August 2011.
Unfortunately, Joel didn’t get a work permit to perform in England. So he was sent on loan to the French side, Lorient, where he spent the whole season. Within a year the situation hadn’t changed much for the striker – the work permit wasn’t received and the game for Arsenal remained impossible. That’s why another season-long loan was accepted. In the summer 2012, Campbell joined Real Betis on loan. After a successful season with the Spanish outfit the Costa-Rican was offered a season-long deal with Greek champions Olympiacos.
