Joël Sami is a defender of Congolese origin who plays for AS Nancy. He was born on November 13, 1984 in Montfermeil, France.
In his teenage years Joël trained at Valence football academy and played for Valence B from 2002 to 2003. In 2002 Sami signed a professional contract with Valence. Joël rarely appeared in the first team and played for the reserves most of his time at the club.
In 2004 Sami penned a four-year deal with Amiens. During his 2004-2008 spell at the club he became one of the key players in the team, making 120 appearances and scoring 8 goals.
In 2008 Joël Sami signed a long-term contract with AS Nancy. Being a first-team regular at Nancy, he has featured in over 100 games since then.
Joël Sami has been occasionally called up to the Congo DR national football team since 2008.
