Joey Barton is a midfielder of Queens Park Rangers. He was born on 2 September 1982 in Huyton, England.
Joey’s youth career took off in the academy of English Premier League side Everton. The footballer learned football in all its minutest details during many years and performed for various youth teams of the club. In 1997, during one of matches for the junior team, Barton drew the attention of Manchester City, where he was offered to train after the midfielder passed all necessary tests.
It took Joey five years to get ready to the professional start of his career. In 2002 the footballer penned his first contract with ‘The Citizens’. The head coach of the club let him come on the pitch in the starting eleven and Barton amassed 15 goals in 130 games during five years.
In 2007 Joey decided to change something in his career and accepted an offer from Newcastle United. The footballer was going to be used mainly as a substitute and that is why he was not disappointed after facing high competition for a spot in the main team. However, the midfielder struggled for a place in the starting line-up and netted seven goals in 81 fixtures during his spell.
In 2011 Barton transferred to Queens Park Rangers. The 2011/2012 season turned out to be very fruitful for the footballer, because he was given a place in the starting squad, and Joey featured almost in every match.
In the summer 2012, the player was loaned to French side Marseille.
In 2003 Barton took part in two games of the England national U-21 team and contributed one goal. In 2007, the footballer was capped for the full Three Lions.
