Johan Mårtensson is a midfielder of Utrecht. He was born on 16 February 1989 in Skövde, Sweden.
In 2006, Johan penned his first senior contract with Swedish third division side Ulvåkers IF, where he performed at the position of a midfielder from 2006 till 2008.
In 2008, Mårtensson completed a loan move to Skövde AIK, which was more prestigious than his parent team. After the end of his six-month spell, the player transferred to Allsvenskan side GAIS. The head coach of the new club gave the footballer time to adapt to the new level and to feel more confident on the field. Johan passed that stage really quickly and soon became the anchor player of GAIS. His wonderful skills, great vision of the field and team-play made the midfielder one of the best footballers in the 2010/2011 Allsvenskan season.
Mårtensson’s stellar performance drew the attention of various European teams, so Dutch side Utrecht was lucky to secure the player’s services on a four-year deal worth €1.5 million on 9 July 2011. Johan made 25 appearances and found the net one time for the club as of November 2012.
From 2008 till 2010, the midfielder was capped 12 times for the Sweden national U-19 and U-21 teams.
