Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson is a forward, born on 27 October 1990 in Reykjavík, Iceland.
Guðmundsson’s career took off in Kópavogur side Breiðablik UBK. However, the footballer did not stay there for long and moved to England, where he studied in the international school in London and played for the youth team of Chelsea. Later the forward decided to complete a move to Fulham.
On 30 September 2008, Jóhann was offered to join Bundesliga side Hamburger SV, and he accepted the offer, but the signing was not completed as the player decided to go on a trial to English side Coventry City on 28 November.
Two months later, on 28 January 2009, Guðmundsson sealed a deal with Dutch side AZ, where he continues to perform at the position of a forward or a winger and wears number 7 shirt. The player’s début for the new club came on 29 June 2010 in the second leg of the Europa League qualification against Swedish side IFK Göteborg, which ended in a 2-0 victory for the Dutch team. That was the match, where Jóhann netted his first goal. According to the terms of his contract, the forward performed for Alkmaar till 30 June 2014.
Later he penned a deal with Charlton Athletic.
Guðmundsson’s maiden international appearance came in the match between the Netherlands U-21 national squad and Azerbaijan, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
