John Francis O'Shea is a defender of Sunderland, who is also capable of operating at the position of a defensive midfielder. However, throughout his career, the footballer managed to play as a goalkeeper and as a centre forward. He was born on 30 April 1981 in Waterford, Ireland.
O’Shea penned his senior contract with Manchester United in 1998. In 2000 John was sent on loan first to Bournemouth, then to Belgian side Royal Antwerp. After the end of his last spell, the footballer returned to his parent MU so that to play with the first squad during the 2002/2003 season. On 20 January 2009, the defender kicked his first goal for ‘The Red Devils’.
On 7 July 2011, John sealed a four-year deal with Sunderland.
O’Shea managed to lift all possible trophies with Manchester United, including the FA Cup (2004), the Football League Cup (2006, 2009, 2010), the Community Shield (2003, 2007, 2008, 2010), the golden medals of the Champions League (2008) and of the FIFA Club World Cup.
From 15 August 2001, John has been capped for the Republic of Ireland national team.
