Jonathan Legear was born on 13 April 1987 in the city of Liège, Belgium.
Jonathan began playing football at local clubs JS Thier-а-Liège and Standard Liège. In 2003, he joined Anderlecht youth system and in a year was promoted to the first team of the top-flight club. Overall, he made a total of 122 league appearances scoring 19 goals during his seven-year spell at Anderlecht.
In August 2011, Legear signed a three-year contract with FC Terek Grozny. On 12 September, he debuted in the match against Krasnodar Kuban. Due to his speed, Legear usually performed as a right-winger, but he was able to play as a defender as well.
In 2014 Legear returned to Belgium and joined Mechelen.
Jonathan Legear was an international for Belgium at various youth levels in between 2003 and 2008. He made his senior international debut in a European Championship qualifier against Kazakhstan.
