Jonathan Urretaviscaya is a midfielder of Benfica. He was born on 19 March 1990 in Montevideo, Uruguay.
The footballer emerged through the youth system of the Uruguayan club River Plate. During many years Jonathan played for different youth squads of the academy until he finally prepared to start a career in professional football.
In the summer 2007 Urretaviscaya signed the first agreement in his career with River Plate where he had been trained for many years. The 2007/2008 season was quite a success for Jonathan because he got into the starting line-up 14 times which was excellent for the player who had just started his career in professional football. Besides, he scored 8 goals for one season.
In 2008 Jonathan was offered to join Benfica. He immediately accepted the offer and sealed a deal with this Portuguese team in the summer of the same year. During a season and a half the midfielder rarely earned a place in the starting eleven of the Lisbon club, and the management decided to loan the player to Peñarol so that he could gain match practice. During the half of the 2009/2010 season Jonathan scored 4 goals in 17 games for his temporary team.
In the summer 2010 Urretaviscaya became a loan player of Deportivo La Coruña where he played for half a season taking part in 6 matches. In January 2011 Jonathan returned to Uruguay where he rejoined Peñarol for half a year. During this spell the midfielder made 8 appearances in the starting eleven and kicked 3 goals. In the summer 2011 Benfica sent the footballer on a season-long loan to Vitória Guimarães where he sometimes got into the starting XI netting twice in 13 matches.
In 2012 Jonathan Urretaviscaya returned to Benfica.
