Jonathas Cristian de Jesus was born in 1989 in Justinópolis, Brazil. He came through the youth ranks of Cruzeiro and in 2008 he joined the Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar. There he began with the youth team and in on 28 October 2009 he made his debut in the Cup match against Spakenburg and scored a goal in that 5-2 victory. His league debut followed on 21 November 2009 and he marked in with a goal as well. That was a 4-2 win over Roda JC.
During the wither transfer window in 2011 Jonathas completed a € 300,000 move to Brescia and in August 2012 he left for Pescara. There he made his first appearance in a 0-3 loss at Inter Milan on 26 August 2012. In the winter of 2013 he was sent on loan to Torino.
Before the season 2013/2014 Jonathas penned a permanent deal with Serie B side Latina Calcio.
Jonathas was called up to play for the Brazil U19 team.
