As a trainee Ayew joined Marseille in 2006, in 2009 he was signed to his first professional three-year contract with the club. On 16 December 2009 he made his debut in a Ligue match for Marseille senior team.
His second goal was netted in the match against Nice on 27 April 2011 when his elder brother André Ayew scored a hat-trick.
On 1 November 2011 both Jordan and André first started a UEFA Champions League match against Premier League Arsenal. In 2014 Ayew had a brief loan spell with Sochaux and later penned a permanent deal with Lorient.
He first appeared for Ghana national team on 5 September 2010 in a winning match against Swaziland in Lobamba. On 1 June 2012 Ayew scored the first and second international goal in 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualification match win against Lesotho in Ghana.
In 2012 Ayew was called up to the Ghana national team for the African Cup of Nations.
