Jordi Gómez is a midfielder, born on 24 May 1985 in Barcelona, Spain.
In 2003, after several years he spent in different Spanish academies, Gómez moved to Barcelona, where the footballer trained during two years till he reached the professional level.
In 2005 Jordi penned a senior contract with the club. However, the head coach decided to send him to Barcelona B for two years, where the midfielder made 59 appearances and netted six goals, waiting for a move to the main squad.
In 2007 Espanyol secured Gómez’s services and sent him to the reserve team as well. The footballer spent one season there before moving to the main squad of the club. However, Jordi did not stay there for long, because in 2008 the management decided to send him on a season-long loan to English side Swansea City, where the midfielder featured in 44 games and found the net 12 times.
The Spanish player showed solid performance on the English fields, which drew the attention of various clubs. Wigan Athletic lodged the best bid for the footballer and offered the best terms of the contract to Gómez, who completed a move to ‘Latics’ in the summer 2009. Since then, Jordi made frequent appearances in the starting line-up, which proved his importance for the club. The midfielder took part in 155 matches and found the net 26 times for Wigan Athletic during five years.
In 2014 he moved to a Premier League outfit Sunderland.
In 2007 Gómez was capped for the Spain national U-17 team.
