Jorge Filipe Avelino Teixeira was born in 1986 in Lisbon, Portugal. He began to play football at the academy of Catujalense and between 1997 and 2005 he stayed at the youth system of Sporting Clube de Portugal. Nevertheless Teixeira wasn’t promoted to the first team and began his professional playing career at Casa Pia, where he spent the 2005/06 season. The following season he spent with Odivelas FC and then moved to C.D. Fátima.
Before the start of the 2008/09 season Teixeira moved to Cyprus, where he played for Atromitos and in mid-season he joined AEP Paphos. Then he moved to Israel, where he played for Maccabi Haifa and in July 2010 he signed for the Swiss side Zürich for a fee of $1.2 million. In 2013 Teixeira was loaned to Siena.
