José Carlos de Araújo Nunes is a Portuguese footballer playing for RCD Mallorca as a central defender.
Nunes spent the initial stage of his career with the second and third-division sides. His top flight debut took place during the season 2001/02 as a part of a Salgueiros squad that soon got disbanded however.
After two decent seasons for Gil Vicente he signed a deal with a fellow-division side Braga. In January 2006 the Portuguese defender was transferred a Spanish side Mallorca. His new club let him play his debut game on January 29, with Barcelona as the rival. During that season the footballer contributed with 4 goals for the team from the Balearic Isles.
Since his very first game Nunes earned a firm place in the starting eleven and soon was awarded captainship. In 2009/10 he continued to bring on successful performances. As Mallorca won 10 consecutive home games the Portuguese footballer scored twice. By the end of the season he gained 33 appearances with 4 goals thus helping his side obtain their final fifth position by the end of the campaign.
During a friendly against Napoli in August of 2011 Nunes got a serious knee injury. The primary doctors’ prediction was that the player wouldn’t be able to fully recover for 7 months but the footballer gained full fitness for less than four months. Since 2006 José Carlos de Araújo Nunes made 199 starts for RCD Mallorca 13 times hitting the back of the net.
