Josué Anunciado de Oliveira, or simply Josué, was born on 19 July 1979 in Vitória de Santo Antão.
Josué spent his younger days at CA do Porto where he played until 1996. His senior football career started at Goiás Esporte Clube where a Brazilian defensive midfielder made 190 appearances during his 8-year spell in the club. Afterwards, in 2005 Josué signed a contract with São Paulo FC. Though he scored only one goal in 61 games, he won the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, Copa Libertadores and FIFA Club World Cup trophies with São Paulo.
In August 2007 the Brazilian footballer was signed by Vfl Wolfsburg where he immediately joined the first team. Already on 26 August he got off to a flying start helping his team to win over FC Schalke 04. However, in the next away game in Gelsenkirchen he received a second yellow card and was banned for several matches. Nevertheless, it didn’t cast doubts on his professional skills and he soon participated in the UEFA Cup. Moreover, Josué shortly received a captain’s armband from his fellow-countryman Marcelinho. Though for linguistic reasons he let his teammate Edin Džeko have that title. Overall, he played 140 games for the club.
In 2013 the Brazilian came back to his homeland and joined Atlético Mineiro.
Josué made an international debut on 27 March 2007 in a match against Ghana. The same year he won the 2007 Copa América with his Brazilian squad. He had 28 appearances for the national team but now he is not so popular on that level because of his age.
