Jozy Altidore is a striker of Sunderland. He was born on 6 November 1989 in Livingston, New Jersey, United States.
In 2006 New York side MetroStars (now Red Bulls) took the footballer after the SuperDraft. Jozy spent his first season at the desk, working on his high school diploma on the shores of Florida. His début came on 23 August 2006 in the U.S. Open Cup match. The striker netted his first goal at the age of 16, in the 83rd minute of the game versus Columbus Crew, and repeated his achievement one week later, though finding the net of other club.
Altidore fired three goals in seven fixtures of the U.S. Open Cup, including a very important goal against Chicago Fire on 30 September 2006. Besides, Jozy managed to score the only goal in the Eastern Conference Semifinals Series match and two goals in the game versus Los Angeles Galaxy.
In June 2008, Altidore and his club celebrated a lucrative transfer, when Villareal paid record $10 million for the striker. However, the footballer did not manage to make a proper start for the new team and the management decided to send him on loan to Xerez, which cannot be called a successful turn in his career. After that, Jozy performed on loan in English side Hull City and Turkish side Bursaspor before being bought by Dutch side AZ in 2011. Altidore managed to amass 38 goals in 67 fixtures of the Dutch club, which, without any doubt, was a crowning achievement for the American player.
He caught the eye of Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio in the summer 2013 and did not hesitate in joining the British club.
On 9 November 2007, the footballer was capped for the United States national team for the first time.
