Julian Draxler is a German side midfielder from Gladbeck who plays for Schalke 04 and the national team.
Draxler was groomed in Schalke and performed at all youth levels of the club since he was eight years old. His Bundesliga debut came on 15 January 2011 in the match against Hamburger SV, but ‘The Miners’ lost 0-1. The footballer became the fourth youngest player ever to make the top German division appearance. Draxler came on the pitch in the starting line-up one week later, this time in the match against Hannover 96, which meant he set another record. Julian became the second youngest footballer (after Nuri Şahin) ever to start the game in the main German championship.
On 25 January 2011, the midfielder substituted Peer Kluge in the second half of extra time in the DFB-Pokal quarter-final match against FC Nuremberg. He scrambled the winner in the last minutes of the game and propelled his team to the semifinals.
On 1 April the same year, Draxler frustrated the goalkeeper of St. Pauli by netting his first Bundesliga goal.
On 21 May 2011, Julian fired the winner in the 2010/2011 DFB-Pokal final match against MSV Duisburg, which helped his team to get their hands on that trophy and made Draxler the youngest footballer ever to contribute a goal in the history of the tournament. That goal was also voted the Goal of the Month in Germany.
On 19 June 2011, Julian signed a new contract with Schalke 04 till 2016. A month later he and his teammates lifted the DFL-Supercup after winning Borussia Dortmund in penalties shootout, but Draxler played only in one half.
The footballer picked up the Fritz Walter Golden Medal for the achievements in youth football. On 9 August 2011, the young German player was capped for the national U-21 team for the first time, opened his international scoring account by kicking a goal and made an assist.
