Júlio César is a goalkeeper of Queens Park Rangers. He was born on 3 September 1979 in Duque de Caxias, Brazil.
Júlio became a professional footballer in 1998, after signing a long-term contract with Flamengo. César entered a new stage of his professional career and naturally was eager to put his skills obtained at the youth academy to use. During his debut season with Flamengo, César didn’t get much playing time and spent most of the 1998/99 season on the bench. In the following season Júlio appeared much more frequently, secured a spot in the starting lineup and became Flamengo first-choice goalkeeper. Júlio César’s run at Flamengo finished in 2005 after he had recorded 130 appearances being the club’s best goalie.
In 2005 lots of European clubs were interested in acquiring César’s services. Soon Italian A.C. Chievo offered Júlio a most profitable contract and the Brazilian couldn’t but accept it. During the 2005/06 season César was part of the club’s first team, but unfortunately made no appearances in the starting lineup.
The lack of practice didn’t prevent Júlio from signing for Internazionale Milano, which at the time was number one contender for Italian Championship title. At first, César was used only as a substitute to Inter’s first-choice goalkeeper Francesco Toldo. But after a period of intensive training Júlio was put into the starting lineup more often. From 2006/07 season Júlio César was Internazionale’s first-choice goalkeeper and featured in 300 matches for the Milan club.
In 2012 the goalkeeper was lured to an English side Queens Park Rangers but did not manage to save the club from relegation. In 2013/2014 Julio lost his place to Robert Green and was loaned to Toronto FC.
Since 2003 Júlio has been capped for the Brazil national team.
