Karim Matmour was born in the family of Algerian immigrants in Strasbourg, France. Though he has 5 more siblings in his family his parents managed to put him to the football academy of the local club of ASPV Strasbourg. There he played till 1999 whereupon he joined RC Strasbourg.
In this club he managed to wrest the place in the reserve squad and sign his first professional contract. In 2003 he returned to his first team, where he, however, didn’t have a single appearance. In this regard he soon joined SC Freiburg where he scored about 15 goals in his 51 appearances for the reserve side. His first-team debut happened on January 28, 2006 in the 19th tour of the Second Bundesliga tournament. And the 32nd tour became especially notable for the footballer for then he made his first senior career goal in his team’s match against Hansa. That season brought him in three more goals and his contract with the club was prolonged till 2008.
In 2008 Matmour joined Borussia Mönchengladbach that had just been promoted to the Bundesliga. His first match in the team took place on August, 9 2008 when he was featured in the starting line-up in the match versus Fichte Bielefeld in the first round of the DFB-Pokal Cup. In the club of Borussia Mönchengladbach Karim spent 3 seasons and scored 4 goals having 77 appearances.
On June 2011 he signed the contract with Eintracht Frankfurt and his first appearance on the field with the new club took place on July 15, 2011, when he was called-up on the 85th minute and kicked a goal towards the very final whistle. Altogether during his firstt season in Eintracht he appeared 28 times and made 6 goals.
On February 7, 2007 Matmour made his debut as Algerian national football team player in his team’s game against Libya. In all in the national squad he spent 20 internationals and scored 2 goals. Moreover he was fielded in all the three matches during the World Cup 2010.
