Keiren Westwood is a goalkeeper, born on 23 October 1984 in Manchester, England.
In 2002 Keiren graduated to the main team of Manchester City and penned a professional contract with the club. During his first year and a half with ‘The Citizens’, the footballer did not manage to make any appearances. When he was sent on loan to Oldham Athletic, Westwood expected the situation would change, but it did not, because the keeper failed to come on the pitch during his six-month spell with the temporary team as well.
In 2004 Westwood changed both the division and the club, moving to Carlisle United on a long-term deal. The 2004/2005 season did a lot of good to the keeper, because the head coach counted on him as on a first-choice goalkeeper in future. That moment came really soon, and Keiren took a regular place between the posts from the following season. The player made 131 appearances for the English side club during four years.
In 2008 Westwood completed a move to Coventry City, where he took the place of a first-choice goalkeeper and played at the position till he left the club in the summer 2011. The footballer featured in 131 games for the team during three years and sealed a long-term deal with Sunderland. According to the terms of the contract, Keiren was supposed to be used at the position of a regular goalkeeper. During the first half of the 2011/2012 season, Westwood competed with a first-choice keeper of ‘The Black Cats’ and took part in nine games. In the second half of the season, the player became more self-confident and helped his club to gain promotion to the Premier League.
From 2011 to 2014 Westwood made 24 appearances for Sunderland. Later on he moved to Sheffield Wednesday.
Since 2009, Keiren has been capped for the Republic of Ireland national team.
