Ken Ilsø began his career at Copenhagen youth amateur club Pioneren. He also played in two Copenhagen youth clubs named Friheden and Kjøbenhavns Boldklub. Only in 2004 Ken left Copenhagen in order to play for Dutch Heerenveen, where Ilsø showed himself as one of the most gifted young football players in Denmark.
Ken Ilsø started his professional career in Heerenveen, though he featured only in one match in two seasons. That is why Ken had to return to his homeland, where he signed a contract with FC SønderjyskE. There Ilsø played two full seasons and scored 12 goals. In 2009 he moved to FC Midtjylland. There Ken appeared in 39 matches and netted 10 goals.
Such steady performance attracted attention of foreign scouts and in 2011 he moved to Fortuna Düsseldorf. There Ken Ilsø featured in 72 matches and scored 13 goals. His first match for the new team took place on 23 January 2011, and one week later he scored 3 goals against FSV Frankfurt proving his professionalism.
Since 2013 the Danish player has featured for Bochum.
Ken Ilsø played not only for football clubs but on the national level as well, though he appeared only in 6 matches for the youth national football team.
