Kennedy Mweene is a Zambian goalkeeper born on 11 December 1984 in the city of Lusaka. He began his professional career at his hometown side Lusaka Celtic before joining Kitwe United in 2004. In 2005, Kennedy moved to South African Premier Soccer League side Free State Stars. He got off to a flying start winning the Baymed Cup at the end of his debut 2005/06 season. For a string of his constantly good club performances and leader’s qualities, Mweene was given the captain’s armband and is at the helm of the team till the date. In the 2008/09 season, the Zambian was awarded the PSL Goalkeeper of the Season title.
After eight years with the club the goalkeeper signed a contract with Mamelodi Sundowns in August 2013.
Kennedy Mweene is a regular international for Zambia since 2004. He was capped as a first-choice goalkeeper for the 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. Mweene cut a brilliant figure during the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations final match against Côte d’Ivoire as he kept a clean sheet throughout the game and eventually led his team to the title.
