Kiko Casilla Cortes is a Spanish goalkeeper of RCD Espanyol.
Playing for the reserve team of Real Madrid during his first two years in professional football he did not receive much playing time. In 2005/06 he started to perform for the Real Madrid C team but was only the number four after Jordi Codina, Antonio Adán and David Cobeño. As soon as the season finished Cobeño left and Casilla (who made only four appearances in the previous campaign) was expected to be given more playing time. Nevertheless Codina became the main keeper with the Adán as his first substitute and Casilla himself managed to play only in the last game of the season where his side suffered a painful relegation.
In August 2007 Casilla having been released from Real Madrid became a part of RCD Espanyol. Kiko waited patiently for half a year until on January 20, 2008 the goalkeeper made his first start in La Liga facing Real Valladolid. During that match he substituted Iñaki Lafuente who got an injury while Carlos Cameni was playing in the Africa Cup of Nations. That month it was also rumoured that FC Arsenal London showed their interest in the young Spaniard’s service.
During the season 2008/09 Casilla joined Cádiz on loan that was prolonged for a season more. Regardless quite frequent appearances in his first season for the side he didn’t manage to save his Cádiz from further rank demotion.
The first game of the 2010/11 campaign remained on the bench and on August 31, 2010 the goalkeeper joined FC Cartagena on loan. Having been an undisputed starter there he gained 35 league starts before his return back to Barcelona. The season 2011/12 Kiko spent as a part of the Espanyol squad. Throughout his whole career in the Catalan club he played 20 games.
