Leandro Benítez was born in 1981 in Ensenada, Argentina.
He graduated from the youth system of Estudiantes de La Plata and went on his senior career with the club since 2000. He had a two-year long loan spell at Quilmes and then for the same period he was loaned to Olimpo. In the summer 2013 Leandro signed a permanent deal with Quilmes.
Benítez returned to Estudiantes in 2005 and helped the team to win the 2006 Argentine Primera División, Apertura. In 2008 they finished runner up in the Copa Sudamericana and in 2009 won the Copa Libertadores. During the latest one he featured in 14 matches and netted one goal. In the 2009 FIFA Club World Cup Benítez helped the club to finish second scoring twice in the semifinals.
