Leon Cort is a defender of Charlton Athletic. He was born on 11 September 1979 in Bermondsey, England.
In 1998, Leon graduated from the academy of Dulwich Hamlet and started to perform for Millwall on professional basis. The footballer took part in 12 fixtures for the club during two years and was sent on loan to Forest Green Rovers, where he made 12 appearances during six months. In the second half of the 2000/2001 season, Cort featured in nine games for Stevenage Borough and returned to his parent team.
In 2001, the defender completed a three-year move to Southend United. Leon got a lot of playing practice and experience in the new club and amassed 11 goals in 137 fixtures during his spell. In 2004, Hull City secured the footballer’s services and saw him score ten goals in 86 matches during two seasons.
From 2006 till 2010, Cort performed for Crystal Palace, Stoke City and Burnley. The management of the latter decided to send the defender on loan to Preston North End, where he featured in 13 games before penning a temporary deal with Charlton Athletic. Leon managed to impress the head coach of the club and was offered a permanent contract at the end of his spell. The footballer took part in 28 fixtures and found the net two times for ‘The Addicks’ as of November 2012.
From 2011, Cort has been capped six times and contributed one goal for the Guyana national squad.
