A Brazilian footballer Leonardo da Silva Moura plays as a right back for Flamengo, operating as the squad’s capitan as well. He was born on 23 October 1978.
In 1996, Leonardo entered the academy of Botafogo, which has one of the best youth systems in Brazil. In a year the footballer was promoted to the club’s senior team. The right back’s ball possession attracted the attention of various clubs.
In 1999, a move to Linhares happened. But Moura made no appearances at all for the club and joined Germinal Beerschot from Belgium. He spent a season with the team, appearing 21 times.
In 2000, Leo got a proposal from the Dutch ADO Den Haag, where he was groomed during a season. He became the squad’s pivot, scoring 12 goals in 29 matches.
In 2001, the footballer came back to his motherland to play for Botafogo. But hardly had he spent a year with the club, when he was scouted by Vasco da Gama. Leo didn’t manage to settle in the team and within few months he moved to Palmeiras. There, he became the anchor player and revealed his talent.
In 2005, Moura moved to Portugal, where he played for Sporting Braga during the first half of the season. The second half of the 2005/2006 season began at Flamengo. In 2006, the club won the Copa do Brasil. Moreover, Leo won Rio de Janeiro State League four times and became the holder of Taça Guanabara three times.
In 2008, Leonardo got his first call for the Brazil national squad. He was honored with the title of Bola de Prata best right back of the Brazilian Série A 2007 and the 2011 Campeonato Carioca Best Right Back.
