Luca Toni is an Italian world-class footballer currently playing as a forward for Serie A club Hellas Verona.
Groomed in the youth ranks of Modena, he joined the first team of the club in 1994. At the beginning of his senior career, Luca played for such Italian Serie B and Serie C1 clubs as Empoli, Fiorenzuola, Lodigiani and Treviso. In the 2000/01 season, Toni made his Serie A debut playing for Vicenza. Thanks to Toni’s strong performances and 30 goals for Serie B side Palermo in the 2003/04 campaign, the club broke into Serie A again after 30 years of absence.
In 2005, Fiorentina bought out Toni’s contract from Palermo for a superb fee of €10 million. During his first season with the Viola, Luca scored 31 goals pulling off as a top scorer of the campaign and one of the best Italian strikers of all-time being the first player to score more than 30 goals in the last 50 years.
A promising Italian striker spent the 2007-2010 seasons with the German giants Bayern Munich. Toni sparked furor netting four goals in a 6-0 win over Greek club Aris in December 2007. He scored his first Bundesliga hat-trick against Hannover 96 on 17 February 2008. Bayern then won 3-0. He also scored a brace in the German Cup final 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund.
In 2010, Toni left German Bundesliga for Italy. He featured for Roma, Genoa and Juventus in between 2010 and 2012. In August 2012, he returned to Fiorentina for a season that saw him score 8 times in 27 matches. In the summer the veteran joined newly-promoted outfit Hellas Verona.
Luca Toni is a top-flight Italian international since 2004. He won the 2006 World Cup trophy together with his team.
