Luís Figo is a retired football player, born in 1972 in Portugal. When he was eleven, he joined the youth system of Sporting CP and then was promoted to the first team. In 1995 he signed a £2.25 million deal with FC Barcelona and played for the Catalan side until 2000. In that period the team won two consecutive La Liga titles in 1997/98 and 1998/99, in 1997 and 1998 they won Copa del Rey. In 1997 Barcelona claimed UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and UEFA Super Cup victories.
In 2000 Figo moved to Real Madrid for €60 million and played for them the following five years, helping them to win La Liga in 2001 and 2003. He left Real in 2005 and moved to Italy, signing for Internazionale and played for the, until 2009. The y won Seria A title every year during-his four-season stay there. In 2006 Inter won Coppa Italia and in 2005, 2006 and 2008 they claimed Supercoppa Italiana victories.
Luís Figo was a part of the team winning the FIFA World Youth Championship in 1991. On 16 October 1991 he made his senior team debut in a 1-1 draw against t Luxembourg. Throughout his international career he scored 32 goals in 127 matches.
He won numerous individual awards during his playing career among these honors are six Portuguese Footballer of the Year awards, in 2000 he won Ballon d’Or, in 2001 was named FIFA World Player of the Year.
